Everything published on this website is general information about Indonesian law. None of it is legal advice, and reading it does not make you our client.
No lawyer-client relationship
A lawyer-client relationship with Lex Aeterna Law Firm arises only when we have completed a conflict check, agreed a scope of work, and both sides have signed an engagement letter. Until all three have happened, no relationship exists, however much correspondence has passed between us.
This matters practically: communications sent before an engagement is in place are not privileged. If you send us case details through the enquiry form or by email, we may be unable to treat them as confidential, and in some circumstances receiving them could prevent us from acting for you at all.
No advice on your situation
Articles, case analyses and guidance notes on this site are written about the law in general. They are not written about your facts, and outcomes in Indonesian trademark and commercial litigation turn heavily on facts — what can be evidenced, when it was documented, and how a claim is framed procedurally.
Do not act or refrain from acting on anything here without taking advice on your own circumstances.
Accuracy and currency
We cite primary sources — statutes, court decisions, official publications — and give access dates. We do not fabricate citations, and where a decision number has not been published in an accessible source we identify the court and the date rather than invent one.
That said, Indonesian law changes. A Constitutional Court decision can alter the meaning of a provision overnight, as Decision No. 144/PUU-XXI/2023 did to Article 74 of the Trademark Law. Material on this site states the date it speaks from. Older material is not withdrawn, and it is not updated silently.
Results
Where we describe a matter or a reported decision, it is an illustration of how a provision has been applied. It is not a prediction and not a promise. We publish no win rates, and we would distrust any firm that did.
External links
We link to primary sources and to other firms’ published analysis where it is relevant, including analysis we disagree with. A link is not an endorsement, and we do not control what those sites publish or how long they keep it available.
Jurisdiction
This site discusses the law of the Republic of Indonesia. Our advocates are admitted to practise in Indonesia and nowhere else. Nothing here should be read as advice on the law of any other country.
If you need advice
Write to us with your name, organisation and a one-line description of the matter. We will run a conflict check and tell you whether we can act, usually within two business days. Please do not send confidential details until we have confirmed that we can.
